About Us
In 1976 Murray Knowling – the founder of Big River Developments – arrived in Berri to commence his carpentry apprenticeship and boarded with a local family. He worked for a successful local building company and remained with that company for a further 16 years.
Murray had made the Riverland his home, married and moved to Monash with his family and started the Big River Development company in 1996. In the beginning there were just 2 fulltime employees and over the years that has grown to become 8 fulltime employees.
Murray is heavily involved in the community, supports various sporting groups, school council and the Berri Scouts for many years.
The Big River Developments building contractors specialises in commercial properties and has been involved in renovating or building some of the area’s most iconic buildings such as the Renmark Club and working on renovations to the Riverland General Hospitals.

This helps maintain industry updates and awards, staff training, compliance and safety issues. Involved with MBA to assist with statutory changes and requirements. Company Workplace Health and Safety policy compiled by MBA.
Housing Industry Association Member 2004.
This association provides latest industry trends and ideas and also provides Home Owners Warranty Insurance.
South Australian Government Prequalified Builder 2002. Requires an annual audit to maintain the company prequalification status for any government related building works.
